The new Lake Union Park Opens

Published by Michael Kass at 12:36 pm under Neighborhoods

The South Lake Union phase 1 will be open to the public on Wed, April 30th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Seattle Parks Foundation launched a $20 million capital campaign to develop 12 acres of green space in the heart of the city into a magnificent waterfront park.  The property was acquired over the past 20 years and with investment of City funds totaling over $17 million. The opening will offer  visitors many free activities including a salmon bake with United Indians of All Tribes, live maritime and folk music, boat rides with The Center for Wooden Boats, historic vessel tours with the Virginia V and Northwest Seaport, history with the Museum of History and Industry,  demonstrations with NW Native Basket weavers.  Several prizes will also be offered,  a San Juan Island flight for two with Kenmore Air, compact florescent bulbs from City of Seattle for the first 500 visitors.

I’m glad to see this project proceeding and Phase 1 finally opening, this will add to the beauty of the growing South Lake Union area.  This along with other park development in the area will help maintain some land for green space.
